I don't see how that could be, Jonathan. Weren't Joseph, Daniel, and David great by man's standards, and weren't they used by God? Wasn't Joseph held in high regard by Pharaoh, Daniel by Nebuchadrezzar and Darius, and wasn't David the king of Israel, and his son Solomon after him? It sounds like someone told you wrong. I don't believe that, anymore than I believe God doesn't speak to his people anymore, only to those mentioned by name in the Bible.

Now that doesn't mean that our ambitions and God's plans are always in concert; we have to find our answers from God himself, as well as answer to him for our ambitions that may not match his. He knows the answers, and knows what we want. His will, will be done.

I just read "Waking the Dead" and that's how I ended up here. On a slightly related note, I'm struggle with ambitions. Is it true that God can't use you if you are great by man's standards. What do you all think? Waking the Dead seems to say that God wants us to reach our potential, but I don't know what my purpose is. So I don't know how to pursue my potential. And, I don't know which ambitions are vain and which ones are good.

going to have to check those books out, arwen! i love to hear about books that impact others! and kim... i'll check out your site. i have the book and read it awhile back, but wouldn't mind a refresher.

and steve... my ten year old son saw the cover of this book and begged me to buy it. i rarely read fiction and can't recall the last time i bought one... especially a small paperback. (they cost nearly 10 dollars now!! wow! lol) but i opened the first few pages and immediately fell in love with the author's writing style. i told my son he couldn't read the book until i read it first. he was disappointed, but has agreed to wait to read it.

of course, its a complex adult book, but... i'm encouraged by my son's desire to read it... even if its too difficult for him to understand fully. i've only read the first few pages, but... am looking forward to setting aside the time to read it through.

i'm encouraged by your comments... and excited even more to read it now.

Currently re-reading Sacred Romance: Drawing Closer to the Heart of God. If anyone wants to join me in the discussion I am leading an online study on my blog at http://r4c-ridersforchrist.blogspot.com
I love this book. It releases my heart (every time I read it) from legalism as well as challenges me by stirring up the things I have hidden away in my heart (both pain and good). Today it made me cry because I never went to a prom (at my age who really cares but somehow it managed to bring that up from the depths of my heart and I didn't even know that ever bothered me). See, read it and you can unbury some stuff to cry about too!!
It looks like I am going to have to read Wild at Heart-- seems very popular on this site. Is this a guys book? I have seen a lot of men's groups studying it and just wondered... sounds like a great adventure awaits.

Hi, Like what you said about love being " love is magic, mysterious, and unexplainable" Are some attrabutes of God, He is a Mystery, beyound our own thinking. I've never thought of love being magic, As I think of it, Disney say's that alot!
